Once Gampel - Always Gampel!
Some people think they are not mature enough, other people think they are too spirited or there are people who regard them as rebellious or even na´ve. You may think of teenagers what you want - but one thing is certain: the Open-Air-Gampel - itself a 16-year old teenager - is in its best shape ever.
In 1999 the number of visitors climbed to 30'000 for the first time. Last year this figure could be increased to 36'500 visitors. Now Gampel, which has been a hot tip to every friend of open air festivals for about ten years - definitely got its regular place in the Swiss open-air-business.
Yet despite this staggering record figure the people behind the festival mustn't become euphoric and lose control, they must stick to common sense and hard work. The organizers of the Open - Air in Gampel don't seek fast growth. The standard of organization should be gradually improved by means of efficiency, professionalism and determination. Good music embedded in a good atmosphere is Gampel's recipe for success.
Every year thousands of visitors confirm " Once Gampel - Always Gampel ". But what is so special about this festival? Is it the qualitatively advanced musical programme? The organizers don't ususally show off with world stars, although, occasionaly a world star may slip into the programm - for the visitor's benefit. Is it the fact that especially Swiss bands are considered? Is it the festival site and the bottom of the Valais surrounded by mountains that intensify the thunderous sound of music? Or is it the well-known fact that the local people enjoy celebrating so much? No doubt, everything adds to this special atmosphere. And what differentiates Gampel as an Open-Air from other Open-Airs is this particular atmosphere in the heart of the Alps.
In the meantime the stars are also aware of this very special atmosphere. Marla Glen, the famous black Lady with her deep voice for example, went after her appearance from bar to bar.
In 1998 the old men from the Blues Brothers Band didn't want to stop playing and last year the Woodstock legend Joe Cocker, reassured us that his appearance in Gampel was his best on his current tour. Jan Gillan, the leading figure of Jethro Tull found the best words:" The Open-Air Gampel is for me Woodstock mood in a smaller scope".
The following artists have made their appearances at the Open-Air in Gampel so far:
Vaya con Dios
Blues Brothers Band
Die Fantastischen Vier
Die Toten Hosen
Gölä und Band
Dog Eat Dog
Bell Book & Candle
Jule Neigel Band
Michael von der Heide
|Now almost everything has been said. And Gampel has not only improved its reputation, but has also succeeded in getting a safe value for its visitors, the artists and the participating partners.|
